Cherry Blossoms
At this time of year my Twitter feed is full of pictures of the beautiful cherry blossoms in Japan. But other blossoms need love too! And that’s why I did this quick drawing. The other flowers must get so jealous of the cherry blossoms and how everyone gets so excited about the sakura, with limited edition themed products and hanami cherry blossom viewing parties. Other blossoms are just as beautiful, but people don’t make a fuss about them so much.
Ume plum blossoms are particularly overshadowed by the sakura; they bloom first, and lots of people find them just as beautiful. I’ve heard they have a really delicious scent!
Catching the Sakura in Japan
I’ve had lots of messages from people who are travelling to Japan this month to see the famous cherry blossoms. They look amazing in photos, but they can be tricky to catch. The blossoms only last for a matter of days, and it happens at a different time every year. There are even cherry blossom forecasts, predicting which dates they’ll be in bloom as the wave sweeps from south to north Japan. It gets very crowded in the top hanami spots, but I’m sure the atmosphere is buzzing, with everyone out to enjoy the start of springtime.
Cherry Blossom Watch
Have you seen my cherry blossom watch? (Now sold out). Strictly speaking, they’re plum blossoms really, but I liked the coral and monochrome colour combination. There are currently only one or two left. Once they’re sold out, none of the watches are being restocked, to make way for new items. So if you’ve had your eye on one, now’s the time!
I’m also working on a dress that builds on this design. I’m currently waiting for a sample to be made, then I’ll decide if it goes into production – keep an eye on Instagram for previews!
