CWF Sushi Comic used in School Sushi Lessons

How to Make Sushi Comic Recipe BookOur How to Make Sushi comic‘s being used in sushi lessons in food technology at school!

Sushi Class at School

A teacher bought the How to Make Sushi comic a few months ago, and got in touch about using it in school to teach students how to make sushi. When we’ve been at shows in the past, we’ve met food technology teachers who’ve bought the comic (and maths teachers who’ve bought the Triangle Club print for their classroom wall!).

While she liked the comic, the students usually use A3 recipe cards in class, so I reformatted the artwork into a double-sided A3 recipe card. The panels are all numbered so it’s really easy to follow.

I’m so glad my comic is being used to help students learn, and for a fun class in food technology! As I wrote in this article for Comics in Education, comics are a great way to liven up a subject.

I chose to write/draw the sushi book as a comic because sequential art is a perfect way to lay out step by step instructions (as well as being fun!). When it comes to rolling a monomaki, the best way to describe what to do is with annotated drawings, so a comic is perfect.

Spread the Sushi Skills

It’s great to hear that my sushi comic has been useful – here are some comments I’ve had from people who’ve bought the comic:

“Wonderful comic-book format step by step guide to making your own (primarily veggie = healthy and cruelty-free) sushi. So much more helpful than just a bunch of words. Very cute drawings and clear explanations.”

“This item was amazing! I got it for my boyfriend for his birthday and he loved it. The instructions were concise, clear, and very fun! We will be making sushi this weekend!”

“LOVE THIS! A great book for beginners with cute illustrations and a lot of knowledge.”

Sushi for Everyone

If you’re interested in using the comic in your school or group, just get in touch! Let’s spread the sushi knowledge!

And if you already have the comic, I’d love to hear how it went! I always love looking at sushi pics – send them to me on Facebook or Twitter.
