Business Entrepreneur of the Year
I’ve been shortlisted for Business Entrepreneur of the Year in the Coventry Telegraph Business Awards 2017! Thank you to the judges and organisers of the awards.
The category is judged by the individual achievements of the entrepreneur, the results returned by their business and their unique approach to the marketplace they operate in (I do like to do things differently!). The finalists are chosen to represent the entrepreneurial spirit of the region.
Representing the Creative Industry
It’s great that the judges are including the creative industry and an independent designer in the shortlist. Many of the other nominees are much larger companies with larger teams.
Focused on my designs, I’ve built Cakes with Faces single-handedly from the beginning without any external investment. In 2014 it became my full time job and I’m so lucky to be able to spend my time on what I love. As a designer, lots of people think I spend all day drawing; in reality that’s the smallest part of running Cakes with Faces, but it’s why I started and it’s the part I love most. I enjoy the business side too; it’s not easy and not everything is fun (like accounts!). I work really hard and don’t have much (or any!) free time, but your messages, feedback and support makes it all worthwhile. I love seeing pictures of you guys wearing my t-shirts or dresses, and it’s great to meet you all at shows. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I’m not your typical business person or entrepreneur so I’ll definitely bring some colour to the awards!
The full line-up of finalists is listed in this article.
The awards ceremony is on 16th November at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. Fingers crossed and I’ll let you know how it goes!
