Cakes with Faces at MCM Expo London October 2011

We had a fantastic time last weekend at MCM Expo at ExCel London – Cakes with Faces’ first con!

It was an exhausting weekend, with a lot of late nights getting ready (never before have I found myself ironing t-shirts at 1am) and early mornings, but it was a lot of fun.

MCM Expo

It was really interesting to find out what people thought of my artwork, and which designs would be most popular. On the Friday we were in the Comic Village, then on Saturday morning we moved to the general dealers section where we had a lot more room for all our stuff! It was a bit of a last minute move – 20 minutes before the doors opened we were running across the hall with boxes, but we got everything set up in time, next to our new neighbours Khaos Komix and a guy selling a whole lot of yaoi (which was surprisingly popular…he even had Harry Potter yaoi).

Our stall was packed full, with t-shirts, prints, badges, cards, mugs and Cute but Deadly keyrings. Lots of people liked the “pain au chocolat” croissant t-shirt, and the most popular print was the Triangle Club, closely followed by Bakery Jealousy. But the most wanted item of all was button badges…a lot of button badges. We also gave out a lot of free badges and stickers promoting Wonton 51, a pixel art iPhone game, and free keyrings from the guys at Flatties, who worked with me to make the Cute but Deadly keyrings.

As always at MCM one of the highlights was seeing all the cosplayers – I took pictures of some of them, which you can see on Facebook, along with more pics from the weekend.

Big thanks to everyone who came to see me on the stall, and everyone who helped out!
