Yep, it happened: I was super-lucky to meet my no 1 art idol Simone Legno! Tokidoki has long been my favourite – I love the artwork style and the cute characters, especially the cactus friends and the new cactus rocker.
I was visiting a trade show in London, plotting how Cakes with Faces can take over the world, and I came across a stall advertising Tokidoki. Me: “That’s my faaaaavourite!” Woman on stall: “Would you like to meet the artist?” Me: “Whaaaat?!” And he was right there! TOTAL surprise.
I was too busy being starstruck to think of anything intelligent to say but I asked how NYCC went, and showed him some of my drawings – he liked All the Best Stuff is from Japan! And I got this out of focus photo to commemorate the occasion.
Now I just wish I’d asked if there’s going to be a vinyl figure of Donutella! And where are the punkstar frenzies in the UK???
